1920s
The history of Dexter Solutions is a classic example of American enterprise, a success story that began in the early 1920s when Thomas Dexter founded Dexter Press in the historic hamlet of Pearl River, New York. The new company made its earliest impressions as America’s first producer of natural color travel postcards, earning a reputation for quality and craftsmanship that came to be indelibly associated with the Dexter Press name. The Burney brothers established Mid West Map Company (MWM) in the small town of Aurora, Missouri, a few years after Dexter Press began business. Specializing in the reproduction of color road maps at a time when America’s love of automobile travel was exploding, MWM soon served a burgeoning national market with its maps, postcards, calendars, brochures, and church bulletins.
1970s
Consolidated Foods Corporation (CFC) acquired both Dexter Press and MWM Company as additions to its Cosco Industries Division. Seven years later, CFC sold that Division to a group of investors who created the new enterprise: Cosco Industries, Inc.1990s
A reorganized investment group purchased two businesses – Famous Artists and A S Hospitality, which were then consolidated into Famous Hospitality, Inc. Famous Artists was divested and liquidated in 1995, prompting the corporation’s name change to A S Hospitality.2013-2014
Several acquisitions were made that resulted in the addition of the Dexter Fulfillment Services in Kansas City, Missouri, the expansion of the Springfield facility, and the relocation of our data center to its mid-Missouri underground home. Dexter Solutions also expanded its printing capabilities with the purchase of new technology, including HP Indigo 7800, and began offering expanded wide-format capabilities.Additionally, Dexter Solutions received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council South, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
1950s
A S Hospitality began in the 1950s as the internal printing operation of Holiday Inn, expanding to serve the greater hospitality industry’s printing needs.1980s
An investment group led by current Dexter Solutions shareholder and vice-chairman John Burkhart acquired both Dexter Press and MWM Color Press from Cosco Industries, combining the two businesses into a single corporation: MWM Dexter, Inc., which was based out of the Aurora, Missouri facility. A sales office was established in nearby Springfield, Missouri.2010
MWM Dexter and A S Hospitality operated as wholly owned subsidiaries of Dexter Solutions until January 2010, when the two companies were consolidated and merged into the parent corporation. Combined operations were reorganized into three sales and marketing divisions (Hospitality, Advertising, and Religious) and two manufacturing facilities located in Aurora, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee.Today
